What happens when we sit down with you at your kitchen table? First, we talk. We ask about your family, your home, savings, and who you'd want making decisions if you couldn't. Most people expect something formal and leave saying it felt more like a chat with a friend who happens to know the legal side.

We cover important areas. This includes Will Writing, whether a Single Will or Mirror Wills suit you and your partner, and if a Property Protection Trust makes sense for your home. If you have a business, we'll talk through options like a Business Lasting Power of Attorney. Nothing gets decided for you. We lay out what's available in plain English, then you choose.

You don't need to prepare a folder of paperwork. It helps to have a rough idea of your assets, property details, and who you'd trust as an executor or attorney, but we'll guide you through any gaps on the day. Many of our home visits also touch on Discretionary Trust or Vulnerable Person's Trust options where family circumstances need extra care.

By the end, you'll know your options. There's no pressure to commit there and then.

Somerset villages don't have an office on every corner. Getting into Bristol or Bath for an appointment means a drive along the A38 or a slow bus journey. For many of our clients, that's just not something they want to take on. We hear this every week, from people who'd happily sort their Will or LPA but put it off because travelling somewhere unfamiliar feels like too much bother.

So we come to you instead. Sat at your own kitchen table, cup of tea in hand, you can talk through your family's situation without any rush. No parking to worry about, no waiting room, no clock-watching. That helps more than people expect.

This is especially true if you're caring for an elderly parent, recovering from an illness, or simply prefer not to drive after dark in the winter months. A home visit means the person who needs the appointment most, perhaps a parent with limited mobility, can be part of the conversation from their own armchair.

As a family run business, we know that village life runs at its own pace. Estate planning should fit around you, not the other way around. There's no pressure to squeeze this into a lunch break. We'll come whenever suits you, in your own time.

You don't need to prepare much at all. That's the main idea. We come to you, sit at your kitchen table or in your lounge, and talk things through at your pace. No forms to fill in beforehand, no legal glossary to memorise.

If you're towards the Mendip Hills side of Winscombe or nearer the village centre, it makes no difference. We'll find you. A cup of tea helps, but it's not compulsory.

Most people worry they'll be quizzed on things they don't know. You won't be. We ask plain questions, in plain English. If something's unclear, we'll explain it properly before moving on.

Some couples like both partners in the room together. Others prefer separate quiet chats first. Either way works, and we're happy to fit around whoever else is there, grandchildren included.

Here's the thing most people get wrong. They think a Will covers everything. It doesn't.

A Will says what happens to your money, your house, your belongings, after you're gone. A Lasting Power of Attorney is completely different. It lets someone you trust make decisions for you while you're still alive, if you're ever unable to make them yourself. Illness, an accident, dementia, it happens more than people think. Without one, your family may need to apply through the Court of Protection, which takes time and costs more than most expect.

Then there's a Property Protection Trust. This one's less well known but it matters a lot for couples, especially second marriages or blended families. It works alongside your Will. It can help protect your share of the property for your children, even if your partner later remarries or needs long-term care. We only bring this up when it's relevant, not as an upsell.

It happens often: someone books a home visit thinking they just need a Will, and it turns out an LPA is more urgent. That's why we sit down and talk it through first. No document gets recommended until we understand your actual situation, your family, your property, your worries. This is general guidance, not personal advice. A Home Visit Service isn't right for every situation. If you're comfortable using Teams and just want a quick chat to update a detail on an existing Will, an online appointment might suit you better. Some people simply prefer sitting at their own desk with a cup of tea and a screen, and that's fine.

If your circumstances are very straightforward, say a single will with no property issues or trusts, you might only need one short conversation. In that case a home visit and an online appointment will cover the same ground. The choice comes down to what feels easiest for you, not what's more thorough.

We also wouldn't recommend a home visit if you're only after a quick answer to a general question, like whether you need a Will at all, or what an LPA covers. That's the kind of thing a short phone call can sort out, no appointment needed.

A home visit really earns its place when there's more to talk through. Blended families, a property you want to protect for your children, a Lasting Power of Attorney alongside a Will, or a relative you're worried about who struggles to get out. These bigger conversations usually benefit from sitting down together properly, in person, with time to think things through without feeling rushed.

So don't feel you have to book a home visit just because it's on offer. Choose whichever way of talking to us feels right, in your own time and at your own pace.
