Your Will, your way
Three ways to make or update a professionally drafted Will: at your home, over a video call, or entirely online in your own time. The same careful, plain-English advice runs through all of them.

The basics
What is a Will?
A Will, officially a Last Will and Testament, is a vital legal document that sets out how you wish to distribute your possessions after you pass away: your property, your money and your sentimental items.
It also names the person who oversees that distribution, records your funeral wishes, and names guardians for any children under 18. It is the surest way to safeguard your wishes and provide for the people you care about.
Without a valid Will, the law decides for you under the rules of intestacy, which can produce results very different from what you'd have chosen. Citizens Advice sets out exactly how those rules work.
If your estate includes property that's grown in value, it's also worth checking how Inheritance Tax might apply, see our guide for Winscombe homeowners.
Many people just need something straightforward, see our guide to a Simple Will to check whether that's you.
If your circumstances call for more than a Will alone, our overview of trusts explains the options.
Not sure whether a specialist Will Writer or a solicitor is the right fit for your situation? Our guide compares the two.
Thinking of Mirror Wills with your partner? It's worth understanding a risk that catches many families out before you do.
Your Will should also cover more than property and savings these days, see our guide to digital legacy planning for what to do about your online accounts.

If you pass away without a Will...
Many people assume everything simply passes to the right person. Too often it does not. Without a valid Will, the law decides, and the results can be costly and painful.
We would highly recommend Futura Planning. They helped us with every aspect of preparing our Wills and were extremely helpful in making sure all of our wishes were understood and included. Most of our meetings were able to be done online, at a time that suited us, which made the whole process very convenient. Steve travelled to our home to complete the Will signing, which made everything so easy. Everything was completed in good time, with excellent communication throughout, and the cost was very reasonable.

Will writing FAQs
Family situations aren't always simple. If you're considering leaving someone out of your Will, it's worth understanding who could still bring a claim against your estate, and how to protect your wishes properly.
If you have children under 18, appointing a guardian is one of the most valuable things your Will does. Here's how to choose the right person, and what happens if you don't.
If you're worried a Will, yours or someone else's, might later be challenged, it's worth understanding the grounds for contesting a Will and how to protect against them.
