Your truly local will writer
Weston-super-Mare is our home — we know it better than anyone
Futura Planning is based in Churchill, just minutes from Weston. We're not a national firm that happens to serve your postcode. We live and work here.
Weston-super-Mare is one of the South West's most distinctive towns — a seaside resort that has evolved into a thriving residential community of over 84,000 people. From the Victorian and Edwardian seafront terraces near Knightstone Road to the family suburbs of Worle, the desirable village feel of Uphill, and the new communities growing at Locking Parklands — Weston is home to an incredibly varied mix of families, retirees, and long-term residents, many of whom have never got around to writing a Will.
Weston has one of North Somerset's largest retirement communities. The seafront, Kewstoke, Worle, and Uphill are all home to significant numbers of older residents — many of whom have substantial assets, including property, that need to be properly looked after. A Lasting Power of Attorney is just as important as a Will for this group, and something we always discuss as part of every consultation.
Because we're based in Churchill — just off the A38 between Weston and Axbridge — we cover the whole of Weston and every surrounding village quickly and conveniently. There's no waiting for a national firm to schedule a visit, and no need for you to travel anywhere. We also offer online appointments via Microsoft Teams for those who prefer to meet virtually.

Serving every part of Weston
Will writing across Weston-super-Mare's neighbourhoods
Wherever you live in and around Weston, we visit you at home. Here's a little about the communities we serve most regularly.
BS23 · Seafront & town centre
Seafront, Clarence Park & Ellenborough
Weston's Victorian and Edwardian seafront terraces are some of the town's most characterful properties — many now converted into flats, others still family homes. This area also has a high concentration of retirement apartments, making LPAs particularly relevant here.
BS22 · North & east
Worle & Locking Parklands
One of Weston's largest residential areas, with its own High Street, schools, and train station. Locking Parklands is a major new community on the site of the former RAF Locking — hundreds of new families putting down roots who need Wills in place.
BS23 · South
Uphill & Oldmixon
Uphill has a coastal village feel, with beach access, the historic church above the cliffs, and a strong community. It's one of Weston's most desirable pockets — and home to many established families who benefit from comprehensive estate planning.
BS22 · North
Kewstoke & Sand Bay
A quieter coastal area north of the town, with views across Sand Bay towards Brean Down. Popular with those wanting space and a more relaxed pace. We visit Kewstoke regularly — and it's one of Weston's highest-ranking areas for quality of life.
BS23 · Central
Milton & Ashcombe
Established residential streets of 1930s semis and detached homes near green space and schools. Consistently popular with long-term Weston residents — many of whom have lived in the same house for decades and are now thinking about their affairs.
BS24 · South & villages
Hutton, Locking & Bleadon
Semi-rural villages on Weston's southern edge, offering countryside access while staying close to the M5 and town amenities. Hutton and Locking are among North Somerset's most desirable postcodes — and residents here often have complex estate planning needs.

If you pass away without a Will…
The rules of intestacy may not reflect your wishes
Many Weston residents assume their estate will automatically go to the right people. Without a valid Will, that's frequently not what happens.
Unmarried partner gets nothing
Cohabiting partners — no matter how long you've been together or what you own jointly — have no automatic right to inherit. Without a Will, they could lose the home you share.
A court decides who raises your children
Without a named guardian in your Will, the courts make that decision. It may not be the person you'd choose — and the process can be deeply distressing for families.
Unnecessary inheritance tax
Poorly structured estates can result in a much larger inheritance tax bill than necessary. With the right Will and estate planning in place, this can often be significantly reduced.
Children from a first marriage disinherited
In blended families, the rules of intestacy can leave children from a previous relationship with nothing — even when that was never your intention.
Family conflicts and costly delays
Without written instructions, disputes between family members are common and can be costly and time-consuming to resolve. A clear Will prevents most of these situations entirely.
Your Weston property at risk
Whether it's a family home in Worle, a bungalow in Hutton, or a seafront flat — without a Will or trust, your most valuable asset may not pass to the people you intended.
Two ways to get your Will in place
Choose what works for you. Both routes offer the same expert advice, the same professional standards, and the same friendly approach.

common questions
Frequently asked questions
Are you really local to Weston-super-Mare?
Yes — genuinely. Futura Planning is based in Churchill, just a few minutes from Weston-super-Mare via the A38. We cover the whole of BS22, BS23 and BS24, plus all surrounding villages including Hutton, Locking, Bleadon, Banwell, Kewstoke, Congresbury and Yatton. When we visit you in Worle or Uphill, it's a short local drive — not a long journey from Bristol or beyond.
I'm retired and live alone in Weston — can you still help?
Absolutely — and this is something we do regularly. Weston has a large and active retirement community, and we regularly visit older residents across BS22, BS23 and BS24 to help with Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, and property trust planning. We take extra time to explain everything clearly and never rush an appointment.
Do I need a Will and a Lasting Power of Attorney?
Most people benefit from both. A Will records your wishes after you die. A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) operates during your lifetime — appointing trusted people to make financial or health decisions on your behalf if you lose capacity. Crucially, an LPA can only be set up while you still have mental capacity, so it's important not to delay.
What's the difference between will writing and estate planning?
A Will is the core document — it records what should happen to your assets after your death. Estate planning is broader: it includes your Will, but also LPAs, property and family trusts, and structuring your assets to protect them and minimise inheritance tax. We offer a free estate planning consultation alongside every Will instruction.
We're a young family in Locking Parklands — is it too early to write a Will?
Not at all — and if you have children, writing a Will is one of the most important things you can do. A Will lets you name a guardian for your children if something happens to both of you, and ensures your assets go to the people you choose. Young families are among those who benefit most from having a Will in place.
How quickly can I get a Will in place?
Most clients receive their completed, signed Will within one week of their appointment. We can often arrange a home visit within a few days of your initial contact. If your situation is urgent, please mention this when you call — we will always do our best to help quickly.
Your local will writer is closer than you think.
From a seafront flat to a family home in Worle, a bungalow in Hutton or a village cottage near Bleadon — getting your Will in place is simpler than you think. We're just minutes away, and the first conversation is always free.

If you pass away without a Will...
Many believe that, upon their passing, their belongings will automatically go to their chosen beneficiaries. However, this is frequently not the case. Your family may have to deal with unexpected problems such as:
Unmarried partner gets nothing
Unnecessary Inheritance Tax
A court decides who raises children
Delays in administration
Family conflicts
Children from first marriage disinherited

What might happen if you don't have Lasting Power of Attorney?
Whilst you are looking at putting a Will in place, it can be a helpful time to consider whether you already have a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA). Many assume their loved ones would automatically be able to make decisions on their behalf should something unforeseen happen, yet often this is not the case. Injury, serious illness etc can cause a loss of mental capacity, temporarily or permanently. If that should happen...
The state decides how and where you live
Bank accounts and finances could be frozen
Doctors could ignore your wishes
It would not be possible to sell your house
Family members would need a costly court order

What is a Will?
A Will, officially known as a Last Will & Testament, is a vital legal document that details how you wish to distribute your possessions after you pass away. Your possessions can include your property, money, and sentimental items. Furthermore, a Will designates an individual to oversee the distribution of your assets, specifies your funeral plans, and names guardians for any minor children you may have.
Drafting a Will is a crucial measure to safeguard your desires, guarantee that your legacy is managed thoughtfully, and provide for the well-being of your loved ones. This provides you with peace of mind.
